Follow Me: Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John

Wild Goose

Wild Goose is a Celtic name for the Holy Spirit! This brand new series by popular Franciscan friar, Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR features stunning videography and keen insight. Fr. Dave helps us explore just what kind of Helper the Holy Spirit desires to be, fully present and interacting in our lives at each moment. Once we invite the Spirit in, it can indeed be a “wild ride!”

Lectio: Peter – Unveiling Scriptures and Tradition

This course by renowned Biblical Scholar and President of the Augustine Institute, Dr. Tim Gray, brings together the biblical stories, historical knowledge, Church teaching, and his own personal insights into the life and work of St. Peter, to whom Jesus entrusted his Church. A fascinating study!

Catholicism 101

Catholicism 101 is an Adult Education program offered on various Friday evenings each fall. Participants are invited to bring a salad, hors d ‘oeuvre or dessert to share. We provide the wine!

The Fall 2017 offering, is entitled, “Catholic Devotions: Piety and Practices.” Join Fr. Steve Brunovsky to delve more deeply into Catholic devotional life! Learn about Lourdes and Fatima apparitions and practices flowing from them and other features on the devotional landscape including saints, angels, and various forms of prayer pulsing through our Catholic life.

Friday, October 13 & November 17, 2017 in the Gathering Area. Both evenings begin at 6:30 pm. Please bring an hors d’ouevre, a side dish, or dessert to share. We’ll provide the wine!

Charismatic Prayer

The Charismatic Prayer Group praises, honors, and worships the Holy Trinity with prayer, song, sharing Scripture, and exercising the gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit. Participants are invited to seek formation by the same Spirit and pray for the physical, emotional and spiritual healing of all the Church and the needs expressed by our members. Our meetings include teaching and sharing on various aspects of the Christian life. We focus on developing mature Christian living, and our meetings are open to everyone. Draw close to God, and He will draw close to you. Come, see what the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have for you.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

This Montessori-based program for 3-6 year olds combines the teaching of Hebrew Scholars, Scripture studies, and Roman Catholic Liturgy and doctrine. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd believes that there is a deep bond between God and children, which produces in them a desire to draw near to Him.

Couple to Couple Marriage Preparation

Married couples in the parish assist engaged couples in working with the Church to meet the requirements of the Pre-Cana and Cana II programs for those entering their first of second marriages. Through this ministry, married couples meet one-on-one with engaged couples to renew the Prepare & Enrich assessment and to share their experiences of married life.

Volunteers much be trained in the Diocesan Prepare & Enrich Program and are given approximately two assignments per year.

Eucharistic Adoration

All are invited and encouraged to spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament every Wednesday during Eucharistic Adoration. Come for 10 minutes or come for an hour. Jesus is waiting for you!

Family Catechesis

Family Catechesis is a home-school PSR program which provides instructional guides, grade-level specific text books and online resources. Parents will be assigned specific themes of Catholicism monthly to teach their children at home. Families come together one Sunday morning each month to examine these themes through prayer, games, stories, and activities. All participants are encouraged to participate in our Monday night PSR seasonal events such as the Christmas Pageant, Mardi Gras, Stations of the Cross, and Choose Life presentations.

Family Life Moms Group

This small Christian community of women of diverse ages meets for prayer, faith sharing, and study. In addition, a few service and social activities are planned throughout the year. Bring along young children for a supervised “playdate” with our babysitter. Mothers with infants are also welcome.

Monday mornings during the school year from 9:30 to 11:30 am, except during school holidays.

Family Spirituality

The Family Spirituality Committee plans and presents short, one-time happenings and activities based on the liturgical seasons. Most events take place on Sunday mornings after Mass. These opportunities allow individuals and families to embrace Catholic culture while sharing fellowship and on-going faith formation.

Interfaith Meditation Group

This group transcends faith boundaries by offering a group setting and support for people of all faiths to practice silent meditation. All are invited to join in this silent form of prayer. Instructions are provided.

Junior Ambassadors for Life

All 8th grade students are invited to join this fun, interactive, and thought-provoking Pro-life organization. Participants take an in-depth look at both sides of the debate on abortion, capital punishment, and euthanasia by reading and discussing articles, as well as interviewing local and national figures who are involved with these issues. Students also learn what the Catholic Church teaches about each issue so that they will be able to form their own conscience with the fullness of truth. Adult leaders and volunteers are needed to support this important program.

One to two Sunday mornings per month, October-March, 10:00 am-Noon.

Men's Group

All men are invited to attend and develop the Christ-centered life skills needed to live in the modern world as a Catholic man. Participants receive unconditional acceptance and prayerful support from the group. Men who are inactive in the church, as well as those who are very active, will benefit from this ministry. Each meeting begins with Mass in the church at 7:00 am, followed by a presentation and small group discussion. A continental breakfast is also provided.

Parish School of Religion

The St. Hilary Religious Education Program seeks to aid the children of our parish in forming, deepening, and embracing their understanding of their rich spiritual inheritance. Catechists and classroom aides share their faith with students by leading and assisting with Monday evening classes.

P.S.R. for Kindergarten through 8th grade is offered on Monday evenings at St. Hilary School from 6:45 to 8:00 pm, September-May. Teacher in-services, meetings, and retreats are also part of this commitment for Catechists and aides.

Parish Retreats

Faith Alive
For over 25 years, St. Hilary has held an annual retreat during Lent. Open to men and women over 18 years of age, the retreat is led by Fr. Norm Douglas and supported by a team of parishioners. Fr. Norm presents a dynamic vision that focuses on ways to affirm, equip and support Catholic men and women in their daily life mission of being the Church in their world of family, workplace, and community. The retreat is consistently rated the top non-liturgical spiritual experience offered by the parish. Join us and learn how you can strengthen the connection between faith, work, and your daily life.
The 2017 retreat will be Friday evening, March 3th through Saturday, March 4th.

Journey Women
Women are invited to a day of retreat every fifth Monday of the month. We gather for fellowship, prayer, reflection and relaxation from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm. All are welcome!

Life in the Spirit
Discover the power of the Holy Spirit and be filled with joy at a Life in The Spirit Seminar on Friday, Sept. 29 (6:30-9:30 p.m.) and Saturday, Sept. 30 (8 a.m. – 7:45 p.m.) We have a great lineup of speakers and priests for Reconciliation and adoration including John Beallieu from Franciscan University of Steubenville, Fr. Bob Franco, Sr. Barbara Catalano, Fr. Matt Jordan, Rose Marie Parisi, Dr. Ed Parisi, Mary Jo McGuire, Fr. Anthony Simone, Fr. Tom Cebula and Abbot Clement Zeleznik. There will be Benediction on Friday evening and Reconciliation and Mass on Saturday. The seminar is free and includes lunch and dinner on Saturday (a good will offering is appreciated). Catholic Men’s Conference
Each year the Catholic Men’s Fellowship of Northeast Ohio sponsors a one-day conference for men. In an environment with hundreds of men, speakers offer presentations on many issues men deal with in the contemporary world. In this “charged” atmosphere, men learn they are not alone in the struggle. It is a time of great spiritual encouragement. This event is always well attended by men from the parish and a group discount is available.

Christ Renews His Parish
Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) is a unique retreat opportunity to “get away from it all” in a serene setting, meet new friends, and spend time reconnecting with where you are in your faith journey. For many, it is a transformational encounter with Jesus and the Holy Spirit; a new or re-commitment to Him with deeper trust, followed by great interior freedom and joy. It is also great opportunity to create a network of supportive faith relationships with fellow Catholic men and women.

Prayer Chain

The St. Hilary Prayer Chain is a way for people to gain assistance in the form of prayer for any serious and pressing problem. It is also a way for any person to act on God’s command to love one another through the gift of prayer. Prayers may be requested for anyone in need regardless of their religious affiliation.

R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

R.C.I.A. is the process through which persons become full members of the Catholic Christian community. Sponsors and team members are needed to support a candidate’s ongoing conversion.

Team members and sponsors attend weekly sessions with the candidates on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, fall through the Easter season.

Rosary Ministry

Devotion to the Blessed Virgin through the recitation of the Holy Rosary allows us to grow closer to her Son through intercessory prayer. Praying the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy allows us to ask for God’s Divine Mercy for the world and those in need. All are invited to pray with fellow parishioners on weekdays from 8:35 to 9:10 am in the Reservation Chapel and during special Rosary events and rallies throughout the year. New to the Rosary? Members of this ministry are happy to help you learn to pray the Rosary. Rosaries are also available upon request.

Small Christian Communities

Small faith sharing groups provide an opportunity for parishioners to gather in groups of 8 to 12 to pray, share life experiences, grow in faith, and be a source of support to one another. Members usually meet in one another’s homes. New groups are always forming.

Teen Bible Study

Teens who want to deepen their faith meet for prayer, scripture study and community with other teens.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School provides a unique way for children of the parish, ages 4 and up to those entering 4th grade, to learn about and celebrate their faith through Bible stories, exercise, music, games, and crafts. Anyone who loves children and enjoys involving them in these activities is encouraged to volunteer. Both adult and student volunteers (5th grade or higher) are needed to make Vacation Bible School a success. Babysitting is available for young children of adult volunteers. 2017 Vacation Bible School is Cat Chat’s BIRTHDAY BLAST: A Celebration of Life! June 12-16, 9:00 am – Noon.

Young Adult Ministry

This ministry is for young adults who are in or out of college, who want a parish program just for them. Monthly gatherings are on the second Saturday of the month. These events offer social interaction, spiritual development, and service opportunities. Open to all young adults ages 18-35, regardless of religious denomination or parish.

Youth Ministry

Youth Ministry at St. Hilary comprises Lifeteen (High School) and EDGE (7th & 8th grade). These programs are vital within the parish community to nurture the faith and spiritual growth of our youth. Adult volunteers with a variety of talents and a passion for working with young people are needed to ensure the success of our parish Youth Ministry program.
