ALIVE Music Ministry
This group of musicians provides the Worship for each
Sunday’s 5:30 pm Mass ALIVE celebration. This popular
Mass is enriched through the use of contemporary Catholic
Christian music and instruments that depart from the traditional
service. Guitars, percussion, piano and enthusiastic
vocals are the mainstays of this group.
TIME COMMITMENT: Required rehearsals are at 3:30 pm
on Sundays prior to the 5:30 pm Mass.

Art & Environment Ministry
Those gifted in the application of the visual arts to Catholic
liturgy are invited to bring their talents to this ministry. The
Art & Environment Ministry strives to create an atmosphere
that will enhance the liturgical seasons and inspire the
assembly through the use of color, texture, plants, flowers
and abstract concepts. Artists and designers as well as
those interested in church environment are welcome.

Baptism Greeters
This unique ministry allows St. Hilary to welcome the families and friends of those being baptized.
Baptism greeters represent the entire parish community in this role by making these individuals feel
comfortable so that they can fully absorb the beauty of the sacrament. Greeters assist families with
seating and guide them through the ritual to make it as meaningful and enjoyable as possible.
Time commitment: One Mass per month or one baptism outside of liturgy per month.

Cantors
Cantors function as leaders of our sung worship: announcing hymns, singing the responsorial psalm,
intoning the Gospel acclamation and generally supporting the singing of hymns and acclamations. Cantors
should have musical abilities as well as a good sense of liturgy.
Time commitment: Cantors rehearse individually.

Children's Liturgy of the Word
This worship program is specifically aimed at children from ages 5 through grade 5 who attend the 9:00 and
11:00 am Sunday Masses. Children are invited to leave their families after the opening prayer and assemble in
the Meeting Rooms to hear the readings of the day proclaimed from the children’s Lectionary. Discussion and prayer
are part of this experience. Adult leaders and adult and teen assistants help with this weekly celebration of God’s
Word.

Choir at 11:00 Mass
Liturgy and music are at the heart of what we do as Catholic Christians. The Choir’s role is to enrich the sung
prayers of the assembly as well as to support its participation. The ability to sing SATB scores is helpful.
Time commitment: Required weekly rehearsals are on Thursdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 10:00 am.

Contemporary Choir at 9:00 Mass
The Contemporary Choir supports and enriches our sung prayer through the use of a variety of instruments and voices.
The repertoire of this group is characterized by a more upbeat, folk music style.
Time commitment: The Contemporary Choir leads the singing at the 9:00 am Sunday Mass. Required weekly rehearsals are held
following the 9:00 am liturgy.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMs) assist in the distribution of the Eucharist at parish Masses and in
our area nursing facilities. Interested parties must be fully initiated (have been Baptized, Confirmed, and received
First Eucharist), must be in a sacramental marriage if married, and serve upon the recommendation of the pastor. New
EMs receive training from the Diocese of Cleveland as well as here at St. Hilary.
Time commitment: serve 2 to 3 Masses per quarter.

Hand Bell Choir
The Hand Bell Choir enhances the celebration of our liturgy especially during the seasons of Advent/Christmas and
Lent/Easter. The ability to read music is important and a sense of rhythm is crucial.
Time commitment: Weekly rehearsals are held on Thursdays from 6:15 to 7:30 pm.

Lectors
Lectors proclaim the Word of God at Sunday Liturgy. Those who choose this ministry help us to have a truly profound
love for Scripture and to understand its power to sanctify us. Lectors also share with the assembly the general intercessions
at each Mass. Training sessions are required.
Time commitment: Serve 2 to 3 Masses per quarter.

Liturgical Planning Team
This team plans and implements weekly and seasonal liturgies, communal penance services, and evening prayer. Those
with a willingness to participate in the group’s meetings and to help coordinate specific liturgical celebrations are
welcome. Love of liturgy, openness to continuing education, and a desire to enhance the worship life of our parish in
the light of the Second Vatican Council are important.

Mass Coordinator
Individuals with a love of the liturgy and a knack for detail are invited to give their time through this ministry. Each
of our weekend liturgies has a coordinator who arrives early to help with the immediate preparations for the Mass, from
overseeing the liturgical ministers to ensuring everything is in place for the celebration of the Eucharist.

Mass Servers
Boys and girls from grade six and up (from St. Hilary School, P.S.R., or home schooled) assist the priest at weekend
liturgies by serving at the altar of God. Adult servers are needed for weekday Masses and funerals.
Time commitment: Serve 2 to 3 times per quarter.

Gifted dancers are invited to participate in para-liturgical events throughout the year, using the art of sacred dance to praise
God.

Ministers of Hospitality (Ushers)
Parishioners with the gift of hospitality and sense of liturgical care are invited to participate. Ministers of Hospitality
perform a variety of services, including greeting people before and after Mass, assisting with seating, helping with the collection,
and distributing bulletins. Families are invited to perform this ministry together.
Time commitment: Ministers of Hospitality arrive 20 minutes prior to the Mass at which they serve.
