The mission of the Adult Education Committee of St. Hilary Parish is to: present timely and
timeless topics to all interested parties and to support and nurture the faith and spiritual growth
of participants in order to foster a diversity of ministries and action on behalf of justice.
Time commitment: The committee meets monthly.

Adventures in Faith
Adventures in Faith is a creative, engaging FAMILY program providing topics of interest to children
and their parents, grandparents or caregivers. The adventure begins with a community-building meal, prayer
and a fun-filled faith formation program. Volunteers are needed to assist with meal preparation, hospitality,
creative arts, clerical support, telephone work, teaching, child care, designing learning experiences, drama
and music ministries.
Time commitment: Some volunteer opportunities require periodic meetings; others do not. Volunteer commitments
are flexible. Great Adventures in Time, Powerful Priests Past and Present will be Sunday, February 21, 2010.

Alive Youth Ministry
The Alive Ministries encompass Junior High (7th and 8th grade) and High School (9th through 12th grade). These
programs are vital within the parish community to nurture the faith and spiritual growth of our youth. Each group
has a Gathering Night which includes socials, discussions of issues that touch the lives of the youth and education
on specific Catholic Teachings. In addition, the Youth Ministry offers outings such as Retreats and Mission Trips.
Time commitment: Adult volunteers with a variety of talents are needed to ensure the success of the Alive Youth Ministry.

Junior High school members of our parish and their friends meet every other Thursday throughout the school year from
6:30 to 8:00 pm to pray together, discuss topics relevant to teens, and form friendships. It is focused on helping teens
become closer to Christ by reaching out to one another and the wider community.

Baptisms Preparation
Share your experience of Christian parenting with new parents. Prior to the baptism of their first and second child, parents
are invited to meet with a pastoral minister and a parish couple who help the parents reflect on and prepare for their new role
of guiding their child through his or her journey of faith.
Time commitment: Volunteers are given two assignments per year plus attend a yearly retreat.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
This Montessori-based program for 3-6 year olds combines the teaching of Hebrew scholars, Scripture studies, and Roman Catholic
liturgy and doctrine. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd believes that there is a deep bond between God and the child which produces
in the child a desire to draw near to God.
Time commitment: Wednesdays from 9:00 to 11:30 am

Couple-to-Couple Marriage Preparation
Married couples in the parish assist engaged couples in working with the Church to meet the requirements of the Pre-Cana and Cana II
programs for those entering their first or second marriages. Through this ministry, married couples meet one-on-one with engaged couples
to review the Prepare & Enrich assessment and to share their experiences of married life.
Time commitment: Volunteers must be trained in the new Diocesan Prepare & Enrich program and are given approximately two assignments
per year.

Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School provides a unique way for children of the parish entering Kindergarten through Grade 4 to learn about and celebrate
their faith. Children come together for a week of fun and activities including Bible stories, exercise, science, music, games and crafts.
Anyone who loves children and enjoys involving them in these activities is invited to volunteer.
Time commitment: Varies depending upon volunteer duty. 2010 Vacation Bible School scheduled for June 14 - June 18.

Junior Ambassadors for Life
All eighth grade students are invited to join this fun, inter-active, and thought-provoking Pro-Life organization. Participants
take an in-depth look at both sides of the debate on abortion, capital punishment, and euthanasia by reading and discussing articles
as well as interviewing local and national figures who are involved with the issue. They also learn what the Catholic Church teaches
about each issue so that they will be able to form their own consciences with the fullness of truth. Volunteers are needed to help
with meal preparation, participate in small group discussions, help set up interviews, help students formulate questions for interviews,
and take students to interviews.
Time commitment: The group meets one Sunday each month from 5:00 to 8:00 pm from October through May.

Parish Library
Volunteers are needed to keep our parish library operational. The library, located just outside the east doors of the church,
houses a collection of books, videos and audiocassettes for adults and children. The library committee makes new acquisitions shelf-ready,
keeps track of circulations and promotes use of the library.
Time commitment: Volunteers work independently other than one annual meeting.

Parish School of Religion (P.S.R.)
The St. Hilary Religious Education programs seek to aid parishioners, from youngest to oldest, in deepening their understanding of
and embracing their rich spiritual inheritance. Sunday P.S.R. for ages 3 through kindergarten is offered during the Sunday 9:00 am
Mass September through May. P.S.R. for first grade through eighth grade is offered on Monday at 6:45 pm. Other groups within the
Religious Education Office include: Special Events Committee, P.S.R. Helping Hands, Home School Program (Grades 3-7), and Junior
Ambassadors for Life. Adult and teen volunteers are needed to make our programs successful.

Become a Catholic - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.)
R.C.I.A. is the process through which persons become full members of the Catholic Christian community. It focuses not only on Catholic
doctrine and history, but also on the formation of the individual life within the Catholic community. Mandated by our Catholic bishops,
R.C.I.A. is a comprehensive approach to Catholicism that honors the unique journey of each person’s call to faith.
Time commitment: Team members and sponsors attend weekly sessions with the candidates on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm from the fall
through Easter.
