Bound by Love

A practical guide to fostering stewardship as a way of life

Stewardship is a lifestyle that reflects who we are and what we believe. It’s about a conversion of heart and mind. It’s about being grateful for God’s many gifts, about cultivating those gifts out of love for God and one another.

God’s love for us is boundless. We only need stop and listen for his voice.

Attending the vibrant, dynamic Masses at St. Hilary gives you the opportunity to hear God’s voice. The central force binding us to God and to each other is the Holy Eucharist. When we partake of the Holy Eucharist we become the body of Christ propelled to love one another.

Our love for others is expressed through our service for others. Service is also another opportunity to hear God’s voice. God calls every human being in a unique way. God is always active in our lives, always calling. The more we are able to discern God’s voice in the midst of our daily lives, the more we will be able to hear when God calls us.

Live out God’s commandment to love God and to love others by making a commitment of your time, talent and treasure. There are so many opportunities at St. Hilary to live out your God given vocation. We ask you to prayerfully reflect over these opportunities and ask yourself, “How will I give back to God this coming year by serving others in His name?”

Take 3 simple steps to make God a priority in your life

Step 1: Commit your time to God
The treasures of our lives are not our possessions but our relationship with God and how we serve others with what we have been given. Jesus directs us to allow the spirit of wisdom to help us focus not on things, but on what really matters - our relationship with God and serving God’s people.

Ask yourself these questions:
Consider hour much time you spend at work, with your family and in prayer. Is this the balance you want? Is there need for adjustment? Do you need to increase the time you spend with your family and in prayer? Where does attending Mass fit in your life?

Commit your Talents to Others
Jesus binds our love of God and love of neighbor into one way of life. it is impossible to separate these commandments and only live one or the other. They are intimately bound together: how we love God is expressed in how we love our neighbor. This love of neighbor is seen in our words of compassion and actions of service.

Each of us has abilities to share with others. When we recognize our talents, we are seeing as God sees and living as good stewards of God’s gifts. Justice calls us to care for the least. Caring for the leas is an opportunity for us to be more like God – stewards of life and love.

Ask yourself these questions:
What talents have you received from God? What do you think God wants you to do on earth for His sake?

Step 3: Commit your Treasure to build the Kingdom of God
Money and all of the things we possess are gifts from God. We are asked to care for and share these gifts generously for our family needs and for the good of others. These gifts are intended to be shared. Why? Because each of us has the responsibility and an inherent desire to help others in need. We have a responsibility to support the ministry of the church. Although we have different levels of material resources, we are all called to return in thanksgiving a gift in proportion to how we have been blessed.

Ask yourself these questions:
What do you think God would say to you about the level of support you give to the Church in proportion to your financial resources? Are you managing your financial resources in a way that permits you to give increasing amounts to God’s work? Is it time to make an adjustment?
