Rebecca Huryn

I was born and raised in St. Mary's parish in Tiffin, Ohio. We moved to Illinois in 1980, and spent 6 years at Transfiguration and St. Francis DeSales parishes, before moving to Guardian Angels in in 1986. We moved from Guardian Angels to St. Hilary in 1997.

We were initially drawn to St. Hilary because our youngest was getting ready to start school, but quickly felt like we had belonged there forever. We were graciously welcomed and encouraged to become involved in the wide variety of ministries offered. I have always loved working with children, which drew me back to the PSR program and later, to Heroes Camp. I've been involved with a variety of other ministries, including Parish Council, Hospitality, and Garden Club. Our youngest is an usher at 7:30 Mass and, as he'll tell you, 'Helping others is what God put us here for.'

I've been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Randy Malick, DRE, for the past 12 years through the PSR program. His guidance and support has allowed me to grow in my faith, both personally and as a teacher. In early 2008, Randy asked if I would be interested in the position of Sacramental Coordinator, helping students and families prepare to celebrate the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation. My background is in Business Management, and the company I worked for had just closed - leaving me unemployed. Over the years, I always dreamed that one day I would have the opportunity to quit work and become more involved with church activities. It didn't take me long to realize that God had answered my prayers!

I am married to the most wonderful man in the world! Glenn is always there to support me in whatever I do. If I need help, he is there to lend a hand. If I'm stressed or feeling overwhelmed, he's there with a hug! We have been blessed with three boys. Aaron and Jeff are off on their own, (God bless them) successfully making their way in the world, and Ted is in high school.

I feel truly blessed with having been provided this opportunity, and look forward to finding creative new ways to help the young members of our parish community embrace our faith and share the love of God with others.
