Father Frank Basa

Father Frank Basa was appointed by Bishop Lennon as Parochial Vicar to St. Hilary Parish effective Sunday, December 6, 2009. Father Basa comes to us from his recent role as Pastor for 22 years at Christ the King Church in North Hill and more recently also as Administrator of St. Martha Parish in North Hill.

Father Frank was born and raised in Bedford, Ohio, where his mother still lives. He was ordained in may of 1971 by Bishop Issenmann. He served as Associate Pastor at St. James Church in Lakewood, St. Augustine Church in Barberton, and St. Martha church and St. Bernard church in Akron before his appointment in 1987 as pastor of Christ the King Church.

In addition to his pastoral duties, Father has been very active in the diocese at the District and Diocesan and State levels. He was a representative to the Diocesan Pastoral Council for 4 years, chair of the North Summit District, member of the Vibrant parish Life Committee, and Chaplain to Boy Scouts. He is also the State Chaplain for the Catholic Daughters of America.

Father Frank is also active with the Knights of Columbus as the Chaplain for the local N.E. Akron Council of the Knights of Columbus, the Tri-County Chapter, and the Fourth Degree Msgr. O’Keefe Assembly.

Another very special interest for him is working with kids, especially the Boy Scouts, in which he has been active since he was nine years old later becoming an Eagle Scout. In addition to being Diocesan Chaplain for the scouts, he is on the Executive Board of the Great Trail Council and has participated in national and international jamboree. He is also a member of the national substaff for the 100th anniversary of the scouts.

Father Frank is a firm believer that, although a priest’s first duty is to his parish assignment, he should reach beyond the parish and serve the wider church and community.
